About Vernalis

The unincorporated community of Vernalis is located in California’s San Joaquin County. It is about 10.5 miles southeast of Tracy, and has taken its name from Verna Carpenter and Alice Hamilton, the name of the two daughters of local ranchers. It played the home to the Vernalis Prisoner of War Branch Camp, Vernalis Reconditioning Center, and the Naval Auxiliary Air Station Vernalis in the course of World War II.
